PM Modi, CM Shinde and other leaders condole Narmada accident victims

On Monday morning, a Jalgaon-bound bus broke through the barrier of the Khalghat bridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, about 90 kilometres from Indore, and plunged into the Narmada from a height of around 100 feet. At least 13 passengers were killed according to officials.

The bus, belonging to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), was believed to be carrying 30 to 32 people, an official said.

“Officials who reached the spot say 15 people were pulled out alive. Twelve bodies have been found. It’s very tragic.According to officials who arrived on the scene, 15 people were rescued alive. Twelve bodies have been discovered. It’s heartbreaking,” MP home minister told reporters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President M. Venkaiah Naidu expressed their condolences on Twitter. 

PM Modi wrote- “The bus tragedy in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh is saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. Rescue work is underway and local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected: PM”

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu penned-  Anguished by the loss of lives in a bus accident in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences for the loss of life in the accident.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his condolences for the loss of life in the accident and directed the MSRTC to take immediate action to pay Rs 10 lakh to each of the deceased passengers’ relatives.

Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot also took to Twitter and wrote-

MSRTC announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the relatives of each of the deceased, as well as the payment of the entire cost of treatment for the injured.

According to MSRTC officials, the bus left MP’s Indore city at 7.30 a.m. on its way to Amalner in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, about 260 kilometres from Dhar.

It collided with the railing of a bridge between Khalghat and Thigari between 10 and 10.15 a.m. and then plunged into the river, according to the MSRTC.
