The farmers’ agitation over the newly-enacted farm laws entered its 27th day on Tuesday. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar expressed the hope to resolve the farmers’ issue soon. The decision on Centre’s letter for talks will be taken on Wednesday, said farmer leader Kulwant Singh Sandhu on Tuesday. On Monday, thousands of farmers from 21 Maharashtra districts left from Nashik to join the ongoing protest in the national capital, PTI reported. Meanwhile, in the national capital, farmer leaders said there was nothing new in the latest letter from the Central government which sought to set a date for the next round of talks. Unions have also stepped up efforts to draw support from farmers in other states like Bihar to demand a law ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP). Primarily from Punjab and Haryana, thousands of farmers have been camped at various border sites around Delhi in protest against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, enacted during the Monsoon session of the Parliament in September.
