The ongoing farmers’ protest against the three farm laws entered its 68th day on Monday. The Haryana government has extended the suspension of mobile internet in a number of districts till 5 pm today to “prevent any disturbance of peace and public order”. Meanwhile Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday called for an all-party meet on February 2 to show unity for the protest. The Delhi Police arrested two journalists at the Singhu border for allegedly misbehaving with police officials while covering the protests on Saturday. The protest, which appeared to lose momentum following the violence that unfolded during the tractor rally on January 26, received a shot in the arm since Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait’s emotional speech at the Ghazipur protest site. The protest sites at the Singhu and Tikri were at the forefront for of the protests until now, with the focus shifting to the Ghazipur border since the Uttar Pradesh government ordered the protestors to vacate the site recently. Farmer leaders now expect record gatherings at the various border protest sites by Tuesday as the movement is further galvanised.
