The ongoing farmers’ agitation enters its 70th day on Wednesday. The Haryana government had on Tuesday extended the suspension of mobile internet services in seven districts till 5 pm today. Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said he will attend a farmers’ ‘mahapanchayat’ in Haryana’s Jind district to garner support for the agitation against the three central farm laws. Meanwhile, Haryana BKU leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni addressed a gathering of farmers in Haryana’s Hisar district, seeking their support for the nation-wide ‘chakka jam’ on February 6. Farmer Unions had announced on Monday they will block national and state highways for three hours, from 12 pm to 3 pm, in protest against the internet ban and the alleged harassment they have faced. In light of the violence in Delhi on Republic Day, security measures have been beefed up at the border protest sites. Multiple layers of barricades and cement walls, along with barbed wire fencing have fortified security at the borders in order to prevent movement of vehicles.
