Ex-chief selector MSK Prasad thinks Dravid best choice for Team India coach

- Dravid will take over after Ravi Shastri's contract ends with the culmination of T20 World Cup
MSK Prasad,
the man who served as the chief selector of the Indian Cricket Team between
2016 and 2020 has expressed his thoughts on Rahul Dravid being appointed as the
next coach of the team. Prasad believes Dravid is the ‘best option’ to carry
forward Ravi Shastri’s project and maintain the team’s good run of form.

Rahul
Dravid agreed to take over the responsibility as the head coach of the national
team when the IPL final was taking place on Friday.
It took some
convincing but BCCI’s President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah managed
to persuade the legendary Indian batter.
MSK Prasad
told ANI, “I told earlier also that Rahul
Dravid will be the best candidate for coach of Team India. He can gel up with
Ravi Shastri and his team easily,”

He added, “In the tenure of
Ravi Shastri, Team India did so well, won series in Australia. Back to back
winning series is not an easy task and if we want this performance to continue
then Rahul Dravid is the best option,”
The Indian
side is set to undergo a transitional phase with a number of talents emerging in
this season’s Indian Premier League, Ravi Shastri’s tenure coming to an end and
Virat Kohli stepping down as the T20 captain after the T20 World Cup.

Dravid retired from international cricket in
2012 and marked his return to the game as the Head Coach of India A and Under-19
teams between 2016 and 2019, during this tenure he led youngsters to the U-19
World Cup.
In 2019 he
was appointed as the Director of Cricket Operations at NCA in Bengaluru and will
now work under a new portfolio – Head Coach of Indian Men’s senior team.

Dravid will
be taking over after Ravi Shastri’s contract runs out with the conclusion of
the T20 World Cup. The tournament will be hosted in Oman and UAE.
India will
open their campaign with a clash against their arch rivals Pakistan on October
24 at the Dubai International Stadium.
