Home Ministry asks Mamata Banerjee to send report on post-poll political violence

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked West Bengal Government for a report on the post-election violence targeting opposition political workers in the state, reported ANI quoting MHA spokesperson.

According to PTI, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that nine of its workers were killed in West Bengal after the state assembly poll results. BJP targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for violence targeting its members and supporters.

Taking to Twitter, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, who is the party’s in-charge for the state, said its nine workers have been killed.

Led by Mamata Banerjee, her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 213 seats in the state assembly election on Sunday.

Attacking her for the violent incidents, BJP general secretary B L Santhosh said, “Listen @MamataOfficial … It’s your duty to protect the people of state which has given the mandate to you. But you never were a CM with compassion. We will fight tooth & nail this time with 18 MPs & 77 MLAs.” 

Meanwhile, the West Bengal CM also alleged that BJP workers attacked her workers and that she was against violence. 

Though she lost the Nandigram constituency to her former aide Suuvendu Adhikari, she will be sworn as the chief minister on May 5 for the third consecutive term.
