In pics: Gusty winds, heavy showers in Mumbai due to Cyclone Tauktae
Mumbaikars on Monday woke up to gusty winds and heavy showers due to the ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm’ Tauktae, which is drifting towards the Gujarat coast. The wind speed rose to 114 kmph at 2 pm, the highest recorded so far during the day, reported PTI. Several trees got uprooted and the monorail services were suspended for the day. As the cyclone inched closer to Mumbai, the operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were suspended from 11 am to 6 pm. The cyclone is expected to reach the Gujarat coast by Monday evening and cross the state coast between 8 pm and 11 pm, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
