India seeks Hyundai boycott for post on Kashmir from their Pakistan handle

Hyundai has landed in hot water in India after a Pakistani dealer posted sympathy messages on social media on Kashmir. In a statement, the company’s India unit emphasised its “zero tolerance stance regarding insensitive communication.”

Hyundai Pakistan‘s social media accounts tweeted posts in support of the “Kashmiri brothers” in their “fight for independence” on February 5. Pakistan celebrates ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ on February 5 to show its support for Kashmir’s separatist movement.
Later, the social media posts were taken down.

However, in India, the hashtag #BoycottHyundai began trending on Twitter, with many criticising the brand for its social media posts on ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day.’
Hyundai India issued a statement following the scandal, stating that company “stands firmly for its “strong ethos of respecting nationalism.”
“The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country. India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have a zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view,” the statement read.

Hyundai has partnered with Nishat Mills, a subsidiary of Nishat Group, in Pakistan.
After Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India is the country’s second-largest automobile manufacturer.
