India vs Pakistan match forces World Cup organisers to release ‘standing’ tickets
- The Melbourne Cricket Ground will host India vs Pakistan group stage match at the 2022 T20 World Cup
- The T20 World Cup is set to begin on October 16
- Both India and Pakistan have won the tournament once in their history
Since there is a general lack of bilateral series between the two countries, India and Pakistan’s matches have since become arguably the hottest commodity in world cricket. For the last few years, the two giants have been meeting in only cricket World Cups and tickets have always been sold rapidly for these matches.
It was similar to their upcoming match at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia when all tickets for the match were sold out in less than five minutes. The entire Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the group stage match between India and Pakistan is slated to be organised at the T20 World Cup, became housefull in a whiff. This forced the organisers to come up with an innovative idea.

The Twenty20 World Cup organisers decided to release standing-room-only tickets for the match at the MCG, which have also been in great demand.
According to the organisers, an additional 4000 tickets will be made available for specific parts of the MCG where the spectators can only stand. The iconic stadium has a capacity of 90,000 for cricket matches, which can go as high as 100,000 for football matches.
“The ticket release ensures that as many fans as possible can attend,” the organisers stated.
The 2022 Twenty20 World Cup is set to begin on October 16, with the final scheduled to take place on November 13. Hosts Australia are the reigning champions, who defeated New Zealand in the final of the previous edition. The West Indies are the only team who have won the tournament more than once.

India and Pakistan have both won the T20 World Cup once in their history. India’s maiden win at the tournament came in the 2007 edition, while Pakistan emerged victorious two years later in England.
The last time these two sides met was in the 2021 edition of the tournament when Pakistan registered a massive 10-wicket win over Team India at the Dubai International Stadium in the UAE.
