Captain Amarinder Singh wrote to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, hours before handing in his resignation as Punjab Chief Minister, expressing his ‘anguish’ over how party politics played out in Punjab over the last couple of months.
Captain Singh defended his administration and track record, claiming his government had fulfilled 89.2 percent of promises made ahead of the 2017 election and the rest of the work was still in progress.
In the letter, the former Punjab CM also expressed his anguish at the political events of the last five months, which he said were “not based on full understanding of the national imperatives of Punjab and its key concerns,” according to his office.
Among other points that Singh defended himself against was the sacrilege case, in which his former deputy, Navjot Sidhu had accused him of a delay in ensuring justice.
The now-former Chief Minister also mentioned the power purchase agreements signed by the BJP-Akali Dal government, which triggered a massive political row in the state, leading to consecutive attacks from Navjot Singh Sidhu.
On electricity transmission, Singh wrote to Gandhi claiming his government invested crores in transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Singh carried on, saying his government released much more than crores per annum for consumers and farmers’ benefit.
“For the first time, we supplied subsidised power to the industry…” he said.
Captain Amarinder Singh also detailed his government’s wins in dealing with farmers’ loans, the drug smuggling problem in the state, concerns over the mining industry and controlling unemployment.
Moving on, the latest news doing rounds over who will be announced the new Punjab CM is focused on one name, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
Randhawa is being touted as the new face of Punjab Congress after Congress MLAs proposed his name for next Punjab CM, according to ANI quoting sources.
A meeting is currently going on at Rahul Gandhi’s Delhi residence and the official announcement is expected to be made soon.
