Member of Parliament for Sri Anandpur Sahib, Manish Tewari, posted a throwback picture of Rajiv Gandhi at an NSUI National Delegate Convention in April, 1989, which is being seen as a veiled dig at the current Congress leadership.

One of the two pictures posted online by Tewari shows Rajiv Gandhi heading a seminar which was attended by a significant number of people.

This comes less than a day after Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh handed in his resignation to the Punjab governor on Saturday evening.

Tewari has made his disapproval of the recent happenings in Congress vocal on multiple occasions in the past, especially in the last few days, giving the current Congress leadership more to worry about while being caught in the middle of a power tussle.

The senior national spokesperson for the Indian National Congress is known to be in close proximity to outgoing CM Captain Amarinder Singh.

Political experts across the media, decoding Tewari’s cryptic message, feel the Congress leader is indicating that the pressure on Singh to resign by the current Congress leadership was not the right path to take for Punjab.

The pictures shared by Tewari are also being seen as a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, putting his strength to pull a crowd in direct comparison with that of his late father.

Meanwhile, media reports suggest Congress senior Sonia Gandhi is likely to appoint Singh’s successor by Sunday afternoon.

This comes following Singh’s resignation on Saturday and after Punjab Congress MLAs authorised Gandhi to pick a new party leader for the region.

Some of the major names being listed as frontrunners to become the next Punjab CM include Sunil Jakhar, who, if picked, will solidify reports already doing rounds that the Congress is gunning for a non-Sikh face in the region.

Other important names include Partap Singh Bajwa and Ravneet Singh Bittu who have been political ground for more than a decade in the state of Punjab.
