Metro services resume in Noida; Bangalore, Lucknow, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad follow suit

  • Metro services resumed along the Yellow Line in the national capital

Noida’s metro service, Aqua Line, resumed operations on Monday, reported ANI. This comes after the Centre allowed resumptions of metro services across the country as part of the ‘Unlock 4’. The metro services were shut due to the outbreak of coronavirus, and resumed after a period of five months.

A passenger availing the services said that the resumption of metro services in Noida would allow him to save on travel expenses. He said, “I had to avail cab services which increased my travel cost. With metro services starting, I can save on my travel expenses. People need to strictly follow social distancing.”

Metro services in Lucknow which had been in abeyance since March resumed its services from 7 am on Monday.

Metro services in Bengaluru, Karnataka, also resumed its services on Monday along the Purple Line at 8 am. As per directives issued by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation, trains will operate between 8-11 am and also between 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm with a frequency of five minutes. Services were resumed in accordance with government stipulated guidelines of social distancing and others. Travelling in metros has been limited to smart card holders.

In Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, the Blue Line ferried passengers between Chennai Airport and Washermenpet.

Telangana also resumed metro services at Hyderabad in accordance with the Centre’s Unlock 4.0. 

Services of Kochi metro in Kerala also started amid COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.In the first phase of resumption of metro services, metro trails will run at intervals of 20 minutes from 7 am to 8 pm.

Metro services in Delhi started between Samaypur Badli and Huda City Centre in Gurugram.
