The Delhi Police have denied media reports that claimed CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, economist Jayati Ghosh, Delhi University professor and activist Apoorvanand and documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy as co-conspirators in a chargesheet filed in the north-east Delhi riots case, reported ANI.

In a report, news agency PTI had stated that the Delhi Police named the leaders and academicians in a supplementary charge sheet filed  in the February riots cases, allegedly for “provoking and mobilising” anti-CAA protesters.

However, a Delhi Police spokesperson told ANI, “It is clarified that Sitaram Yechury, Yogendra Yadav and Jayati Ghosh have not been arraigned as accused in the supplementary chargesheet (of Delhi violence case) filed by us.”

The spokesperson added, “As far as tweet by a news agency regarding Delhi Police naming academicians and politicians in supplementary charge sheet of case related to Jaffrabad riots is concerned,it’s mentioned in one of online news agency report that names are part of disclosure statement of one of the accused in connection with organising and addressing the anti-CAA protests.”

The statement further said, ” It is worth mentioning that the disclosure statement has been truthfully recorded as narrated by the accused person. A person is not arraigned as an accused only on the basis of disclosure statement. However, it is only on the existence of sufficient corroborative evidence does further legal action is taken. The matter is currently subjudice.”

Yadav took to Twitter to clarify his name saying, “Harassed till proven innocent is right. Delhi Police is trying very hard to drag all any CAA protesters in the circle of conspirators. My only clarification is that as yet Delhi Police has not formally named me or Yechuri as conspirators or accused.”
