Aftab Poonawala, the 28-year-old man who
is accused of the murder of his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, has reportedly
confessed to the police that he burnt Walkar’s face after killing her in order
to conceal her identity, ANI reported citing police sources. This is the latest
grisly fact about the gruesome murder that took place in Delhi’s Mehrauli.

On May 18 this year, Aftab Poonawala and
Shraddha Walker got into a confrontation. Aftab allegedly strangled Shraddha
Walkar to death. Subsequently, Poonawala allegedly cut Shraddha Walkar’s body
into pieces and disposed them across Delhi. Police are yet to find all the
pieces. Now, police sources have come to know that Poonawala had burned Walkar’s
face to conceal her identity.

Police say Aftab Poonawala has not been
particularly forthcoming about the facts of the case. Therefore, they have sought
permission for a Narco test, a test using truth serum to answer questions.

“Delhi Police realised that Aftab sometimes
lies & sometimes speaks the truth. So, they applied for Narco test. I feel I’m
about to get justice. If he has done crime, he should be hanged. I always felt
he’s lying. I had told Mumbai & Delhi Police,” said Vikas Walkar, Shraddha
Walkar’s father, to ANI.

Aftab Poonawala and Shraddha Walkar worked
in call centres in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Walkar’s family was not entirely
accepting of her relationship with Poonawala. In May this year, Poonwala and
Walkar moved to Delhi and rented a flat in Delhi’s Mehrauli area. Four days
after moving in, the fight occurred leading to the murder.

After allegedly killing Walkar, Poonawala
is said to have taken pains to destroy any evidence that could connect him to
the murder. He allegedly chopped off his live-in partner’s body into 35 pieces and
disposed them off across Delhi. Police have also found that he was charged a
high water bill.

Considering Delhi provides 20,000 litres
of water
for free every month, it is strange that Poonawala drove up a high
water bill. Police suspect Poonawala used the water to wash off the body off blood
and kept the tap open for him to drown out the sound of him slashing the body.
