Arshdeep Singh,
the Indian left-handed pacer who has found the stage to display his potential
in Asia Cup 2022, dropped an easy catch towards the end of the match that, arguably,
gifted the match to Pakistan. The Pakistan batting line-up had done well to
keep Indian bowlers under pressure and the match could go either way till the
very last over. However, had Arshdeep Singh not missed the catch, one might
have been looking at a very different result.

Pakistan won
the Super4s India versus Pakistan match on Sunday by 5 wickets. Team India must
win the remaining two matches, one against Sri Lanka and another against
Afghanistan, to stay in the tournament.

It was the 18th
over underway and Ravi Bishnoi was balling to Asif Ali. Asif Ali looked to slog
sweep the ball but mistimed it completely. The ball went high up in the air and
Arshdeep Singh was right under it before he dropped a dolly. For many
observers, this became the turning point of the match.

Indian skipper
Rohit Sharma was positively frantic. One could see his disappointment and
frustration in his demeanour. He knows that catches win matches and missed
catches often lose matches.

Social media
broke out in an uproar after the missed catch with many blaming the bowler for
losing the match for India. Many even shared memes suggesting what Rohit Sharma
would do to him in the dressing room. Rohit Sharma, otherwise a cool customer,
was under pressure on Sunday. Earlier, he was presumably seen giving Rishabh
Pant an earful for getting out with a poor shot.

However, the
Indian skipper did give Arshdeep an opportunity to redeem himself by giving him
to bowl the last over. Singh tried his best with just seven runs to defend to
eke out a victory. But things were already beyond control. Even while Arshdeep
Singh took a wicket on the third ball of the over, Pakistan just needed two
runs then, from two balls. The very next delivery, Ifthikar Ahmed lofted
Arshdeep’s yorker and ran two runs to finish the match.
