As ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm Nivar made landfall in the early hours of Thursday, coastal regions of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu experienced strong winds and heavy rainfall. However, the cyclone then weakened into a ‘severe’ one and is expected to weaken further, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, who visited the rain-ravaged areas in and around this town on Thursday told reporters that Puducherry recorded 23 cm rainfall. He said there were no deaths reported due to the cyclone.
