Who is Hemant Nagrale, the new Mumbai Commissioner of Police

Senior IPS officer Hemant Nagrale on Wednesday became the new Mumbai Police Commissioner, replacing Param Bir Singh following the row regarding the bomb scare outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence, reported PTI. Nagrale, who already holds charge of Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP), is a former member of the  Central Bureau of Investigation.

During his time in the CBI, Nagrale was part of investigating teams probing high profile case, including the Harshad Mehta scam and Ketan Parekh scam, according to News 18.

Nagrale is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from VRCE Nagpur and did his his post graduation in Master of Finance Management from JBIMS, Mumbai. 

While Nagrale’s first assignment was in the Naxalite-affected Chandrapur District as ASP Rajura, he was also involved in controlling the post-Babri masjid communal riots in Solapur city in 1992.

He was deputed to the CBI in 1998 and was posted as SP BSFC, CBI, Mumbai and later as DIG, CBI, New Delhi. He was also involved in rescuing people during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
