When the 2022-23 season began, English fans were excited with the prospect of seeing two of the finest upcoming strikers, Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland, light up affairs at the Premier League with their respective sides, Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, it has only been Haaland who has been able to live up to the hype, with the Norwegian scoring three consecutive hattricks in the earlier part of the season. Nunez, on the other hand, has been struggling with his form. He was earlier trolled for his poor performance against City in the Carabao Cup, and now his performance in the PL against Aston Villa, in which the Uruguayan missed three easy chances, was subject to ridicule on social media once again. Here’s a video of his misses:

Another user wrote on Twitter, “Nunez is quite unlucky. The early comparisons with haaland (who’s leading the race to the golden boot quite easily) are the reason he’s being clowned more than the bigger flops & his misses aren’t helping 😂😂”

However, not all Liverpool fans are up in arms against the 23-year-old striker. Some have said that he needs some time to become a prolific goalscorer. One fan said, “Already Scored 9 goals+4 assist & will score 20+ goals this season. He is very Raw & klopp knows how to turn raw players in to elite superstars if they have right determination, which Nunez has.”

To put things into context, Haaland has scored 18 league goals this season already in the 14 matches Man City have played so far. Nunez, on the other hand, has managed to net in only five. Liverpool next face Leicester City on December 31.
