Former England captain Michael Vaughan has suggested that Virat Kohli should take a three-month sabbatical in order to return to his usual self.

Kohli is currently part of the Indian cricket team that is on a tour of England. The Men in Blue were recently beaten by England in the rescheduled fifth test at Edgbaston. The 33-year-old looked out of touch throughout the game and managed to score only 31 runs across two innings.

“I look at Virat in particular. I knew he had a little bit of a rest at the end of the IPL. But he just looks to me like he needs a sabbatical. He looks like he needs three months away from cricket. Go and sit on a beach,” Vaughan said to Cricbuzz.

“Go and do what you can with your family because a career of 20 years, which he probably will end up getting because he’s such a good player. To have a three months break, is it going to affect him? No. Will it help him? Yes,” he continued.

Following the Test defeat against England, Kohli’s poor run of form has extended once again. He has not scored a Test century in the last 19 months and meanwhile, Joe Root has overtaken him both in Test centuries and batting average.

The Indian team is set to play a three-match T20I series against England, beginning from July 7. Vaughan lambasted the calendar of the two teams and opined that it is ‘impossible’ for cricketers who play all three formats to display their best displays in such a short time.

“I just look at the schedule for India and England. It’s ridiculous. We’ll see more and more of this over the next few years. It’s just impossible that all-format players will be able to play all three formats,” the 47-year-old quipped.

“The management of all these teams are going to have to be very clever in terms of giving them a breather,” he added.
