While Team India was not able to emerge victorious in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022, the continental tournament served as the platform for Virat Kohli’s return to form. The former India captain was without a century for more than 1,000 days, and he broke the streak with a spectacular undefeated 122 from 61 balls in the penultimate match against Afghanistan.

The 33-year-old looked full of confidence in the Asia Cup, which will be a great positive for the Men in Blue against Australia and the T20 World Cup next month. With Kohli coming back to form, he is also in contention of breaking several records which can come against Australia. Let’s take a look at the records Virat Kohli can break against Australia.

Highest scorer in T20I

The former Indian captain is also in contention for becoming the highest scorer in the T20I format in the world. Kohli currently has 3,584 runs from 96 innings and is following Rohit Sharma at the top, who has 3,620 runs in 128 innings. While both are part of India’s squad against Australia in the T20I series, if Virat can manage to fill the 36 runs deficit, he stands a chance to become the highest T20I scorer of all time.

Sixth highest run-scorer in international cricket

Kohli is in contention for becoming the sixth highest run-scorer in the history of international cricket against Australia. He currently has 24,002 runs across all three formats, following Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene and Rahul Dravid

Dravid, who is also the Indian coach at the moment, has scored 24, 208 runs in his career, 207 runs more than Virat’s tally of 24,002 runs. If Virat manages to score 208 runs in the upcoming series, he will overtake Dravid’s tally.

Most Player of the Series awards

Kohli also stands the chance of equalling Indian great Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 20 Player of the Series awards in his career, if he wins it against Australia. The 33-year-old currently has 19 Player of the Series awards across all three formats, only one less than that of Sachin Tendulkar (20). With Kohli returning to his usual self in the previous match, it is not impossible if he goes on to clinch the award and equalling Tendulkar’s record.
