India women’s cricket team’s journey in Commonwealth Games 2022

India defeated England by four runs in the semifinal match, defending the 165-run goal to advance to the final and guarantee at least a silver medal at CWG 2022.

India advanced to the semifinals on Wednesday by defeating Barbados by a score of 100 runs in their final group stage match. India went on to overcome Pakistan by eight wickets after losing their opener match to Australia by three wickets. With a total of four points after Group A play, Team India finished second, while England won Group B.

Here’s India’s journey at the Commonwealth Games 2022:

India vs Australia

Renuka Singh, who was playing in just her eighth T20I, destroyed Australia’s renowned top and middle order inside the powerplay as the world champions were down and out at 49 for 6, but a remarkable response by veteran performer Ash Gardner turned the tables on India.

Smriti Mandhana had sprayed the off-side with boundaries to get to 24 off 16 balls when she edged behind to the wicketkeeper while attempting to slash a wide outside-off delivery, as is her wont. The other opener, Shafali Verma, initially took a back seat to her partner before erupting to score 48 off 33 balls. She was accompanied by her captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who off 32 balls became the first woman to register a CWG fifty. Renuka’s spectacular opening burst of swing bowling reduced Australia to 34 for four in 4.1 overs, giving India 154 for eight and making them happy.

When Grace Harris attacked the spinners on her way to a 20-ball 37, Gardner was inspired to play her shots. The leg-spinner delivered some fierce hits with the bat on a day when Alana King struggled with the ball, including the winning runs as the global champion stamped its influence on yet another multi-team competition.

India vs Pakistan

Pakistan has been destroyed by India with huge margin. Pakistan chose to bat, but after losing wickets often (including three in the final over), it was skittled out for 99 in 18 overs. Along with poor batting, poor communication was a major factor in Pakistan’s defeat as a result of India’s three run-outs. Sneh Rana and Radha Yadav each took two wickets to further Pakistan’s predicament.

India was never going to have trouble scoring 100 runs, but few people were expecting them to win the match in just 12 overs. Smriti Mandhana stole the stage from start to finish as she sped to a 31-ball fifty before adding the closing touches.

India vs Barbados

At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Wednesday, India defeated Barbados by a score of 100 runs, led by outstanding performances from Jemimah Rodrigues and Renuka Singh. India became the second team from Group A to advance to the last four as a result of the victory. In response to Renuka’s spectacular performance, who scalped four overs and allowed 10 runs in her allotted time while chasing 163, Barbados disintegrated. In response to India’s 162/4, Barbados scored 62/8 in 20 overs thanks to wickets taken by Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Meghna Singh, and Harmanpreet Kaur.

After being allowed to bat first, Jemimah led India to a difficult total with an unbeaten 56 off 46 balls. In the second over, Jemimah entered the middle and formed key partnerships with Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma. As per usual, Shafali hit a quick 26-ball 43 before a mix-up ended her time in the middle. Along with Jemimah, Deepti contributed with a crucial 28-ball 34 and a 70-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, on the other hand, came up short. Smriti went out after five runs, and Harmanpreet was out after a first-ball duck.

India vs England

India advanced to the Commonwealth Games final on Saturday by defeating England by a score of four runs.

India advanced to the semifinals at Edgbaston and defeated the hosts, England, by 4 runs. India chose to bat, and Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues helped the team to 164/5. Smriti scored 61 runs in 32 balls, including the tournament’s quickest 50. After 20 overs of playing, England declared their innings at 160/6.

India will face either the Australia or New Zealand in the finals.
