Mumbai Indians faced Chennai Super Kings in a fixture that saw MS Dhoni smash a six and two boundaries in the final over, to chase the 156-run target, set by the former at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Thursday.

Captain of the losing Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma, said after the match, “In the end, it was a great fight from us, we were in the game after not batting well, the bowlers kept us in, but in the end, you know how towering MSD can be and he took them home.”

Sharma’s side had a poor batting performance with both the skipper and Ishan Kishan being dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary deliveries in the first over. The pacer sent Dewald Brevis home packing as well, in the third. Tilak Varma was the top scorer for the team, with 50 runs off 43 balls, with Suryakumar Yadav pitching in with 32 off 21 deliveries.

MI bowling kept CSK contained as the side struggled to score against a slow wicket. However, Dhoni turned the game around, taking Jaydev Unadkat to the cleaners. Dhoni sealed the game with a boundary in the very last ball of the innings.

Sharma continued, “It’s hard to put a finger on anything, but we’re not starting well in the match. If you lose quick wickets, you’ll always be playing the catching game. But I thought we did well to keep them under pressure, we did so until the last over, but Pretorius and Dhoni took them home.”

CSK did see some slippery fingers, with skipper Ravindra Jadeja dropping two catches. However, their bowling, thanks to Choudhary and Dwayne Bravo, upped the pressure on MI. Bravo bagged two wickets, reaching a total tally of 150 T20 wickets for CSK.

Sharma’s side rallied despite the poor batting, but couldn’t pin down CSK, making this their seventh loss, as the five-time champions have failed to secure a win in IPL 2022.

The skipper concluded, “We always back ourselves to do well, but as I said, we lost too many early wickets, we did make a good comeback with both bat and ball, but it wasn’t enough in the end”.
