Tilak Varma is an Indian cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm-off-break bowler. The 19-year-old was bought by the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2022.
Namboori Thakur Tilak Varma was born in Hyderabad, India on November 8, 2002. In 2018, he made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy, and in 2019, he made his Twenty20 debut for Hyderabad in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, followed by his A-list debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was also included in India’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad in 2020. He has an amazing strike rate of 140 in T20s.
For his hard work and consistently improved performances, Varma has been included in the most successful IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians.
Tilak Varma, a young Hyderabad batsman, was one of the few lucky 19-year-old cricketers who were bought by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction in 2022 for Rs. 1.7 crore. Tilak’s name was registered in the uncapped player’s category. There was quite a big bidding war for the youngsters as Mumbai Indians had to beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals to buy Varma for IPL 2022. He was sold for eight times more money than his actual bid price of Rs. 20 lakh.
In an interview with PTI, Varma said that he is happy to be a part of the Mumbai Indians team and expressed his gratitude towards his coach, Salam Bayash, for his success, who bought him gear and took care of most of his expenses. “Because of him and my family’s support, I am here today,” the young cricketer said after fetching the IPL deal.
Varma said that he is confident of playing for the team if given the opportunity in the tournament.
