Virat Kohli has been rested for India’s tour of West Indies, following his poor form in the tour of England. However, he is expected to be back to the fold in time for India’s Asia Cup 2022 campaign in August. The Men in Blue are the defending champions in the tournament, and ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, the format has been changed to T20. Kohli, who had last played in the tournament in 2016, will look forward to getting back to form in the tournament.

Ahead of the Asia Cup 2022, the official broadcaster of the tournament, Star Sports, released a statement from Kohli on Saturday, which said he is ready to do anything in order to help India win the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup trophies.

“My main aim is to help India win the Asia Cup and the World Cup and for that I am ready to do anything for the team,” Kohli said.

The 33-year-old’s slump in form has been criticised severely by many former cricketers. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has suggested Kohli to take a sabbatical while ex-Indian captain Kapil Dev has said that he should be excluded from the squad if he is not in form. However, current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has backed Kohli, saying the team will be supporting him in his time of need.

However, several cricket pundits like Ricky Ponting and Ajit Agarkar have voiced their support for Kohli, saying that India will need his experience and abilities in Australia during the T20 World Cup.

Kohli has a huge experience of touring Australia and knows how to deal with pressure while playing in Aussie conditions. While his dwindling form remains a concern for many, the Indian ace remains one of the most experienced players India can have if they look to win the World Cup later this year.

The T20 World Cup begins on October 16, while the final is slated to take place on November 13 in Australia.
