Arun Dhumal, the outgoing treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), reminded the members at the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday that the BCCI’s funds have grown by about Rs 6000 crore during the previous three years.

According to Dhumal’s statement, the BCCI had Rs 3648 crores in its treasury when the present team took over the Board from the CoA in 2019.

Who is Arun Dhumal?

Arun Dhumal is the outgoing treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, who took office in 2019, and the current IPL Governing Council chief.

At the BCCI’s 2022 Annual General Meeting, Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya were chosen to serve on the IPL’s governing council (AGM). Brijesh Patel has been replaced as IPL chairman by Dhumal.

Dhumal was nominated by the Himachal Cricket Association to represent his state in the BCCI AGM.

When the now-outgoing team took over the Board from the CoA in 2019, the BCCI reportedly had Rs 3648 crores in its treasuries.

“We are handing over an organisation that sits over a treasury of Rs 9629 crores of funds, which is roughly thrice of what we got at the time of our taking over from CoA. This is remarkable in the light of the fact that the disbursement to the state associations has seen a jump of nearly 5 times; from Rs 680 crores during the CoA tenure to Rs 3295 crores now to the state associations,” Dhumal noted during the AGM.

The e-auction of the IPL’s broadcasting and digital rights from the business cycle of 2023–27, which brought in Rs 48,390 crores, and the valuation of the two new IPL franchises—Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants—which were auctioned for Rs 12,715 crores, were the reasons for this, according to Dhumal.
