Jason Mitchell was the mastermind behind a robbery attempt after seeing large amounts of cash at former Washington Commanders‘ safety Sean Taylor‘s birthday party.

He and four other men, Venjah K. Hunte, Eric Rivera, Jason Scott Mitchell and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow broke into the Taylor’s Miami area house in November 2007 while he was sleeping with his fiancée, Jackie García, and their 18-month-old daughter, Jackie.

Taylor confronted the intruders and was shot in the leg by Rivera. and subsequently died from internal bleeding the next day.

Mitchell was 17 at the time of this incident and is currently 32 years old.

He was found guilty of first-degree felony murder and armed burglary in 2014.

Who is Jason Mitchell?

Jason Mitchell belongs to Lehigh Acres, a Municipal District in Lee County, Florida, according to archive.naplesnews.com. 

Judge Dennis Murphy of the Miami-Dade Circuit Court issued the mandatory life sentence for murder, plus 40 years for the burglary conviction on Mitchell.

According to Assistant State Attorney Reid Rubin, Mitchell hatched the plot that eventually involved five Fort Myers-area men after spending time at Taylor’s home near Miami, where he witnessed the player giving thousands of dollars in cash to friends and relatives. Mitchell attempted and failed to burglarize the home alone in mid-November 2007, according to Rubin, before returning with the group on Thanksgiving weekend to complete the job.

Who was involved in the killing of Sean Taylor?

Venjah K. Hunte, 20, Eric Rivera, Jr., 17, Jason Scott Mitchell, 19, and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18, were arrested on November 30. Timothy Brown, a 16-year-old suspect, was charged with first-degree murder and burglary in May 2008.  All of the murder charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder.

The former Safety is currently survived by his then-fiance Jackie Garcia and his now 17-year-old daughter Jackie.
