Miami Dade Police Department said that one officer had been shot after an “altercation” and has been transported to the Ryder Trauma Center, which is located at 1800 NW 10th Avenue in Miami, Florida. The officer is reportedly a part of Miami Dade PD’s Robbery Intervention Detail.

Unconfirmed local media reports suggest that a suspect has been fatally shot by police officers who responded to the incident. The identity of the suspect is not known yet.

The suspect, at first, managed to escape barricading erected by law enforcement officials at the crime scene. The suspect was involved in a multi-car crash, which was followed by an exchange of gunfire.

The I-95 highway was briefly sealed off to rush the injured police officer to the trauma center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dozens of police officers were seen gathering at the hospital to show support for their injured colleague, according to Local10 News.

Hours before the shooting, which happened at NW 62 Street and NW 7 Avenue, Miami Dade law enforcement officials responded to another similar incident.

At 6 AM on Monday, an unidentified suspect shot at least five cars outside ‘ Booby Trap’, a Miami Dade strip club located on 3615 NW South River Drive. No injuries were reported.

Esteban Bovo, the mayor of Hialeah, Miami Dade, wrote in a social media post, “The City of Hialeah offers its condolences to the family and officers of @MiamiDadePD for their tragic loss tonight.”

Steadman Stahl, Miami Dade’s police union president, was asked about the situation. He responded “It’s not looking good”, according to reports from The Sun.
