Who is Jasprit Bumrah?

Japrit Bumrah came as
a saviour of the Indian cricket team who were desperate for a pacer with an
expertise in bowling during the death overs. He rose to fame in the Indian Premier
League by displaying scintillating performances for the Mumbai Indians.

In his
debut match he claimed 3 wickets for 32 runs against the Royal Challengers
Bangalore, his first IPL wicket was of an in form Virat Kohli who was left
surprised. Interestingly, Bumrah’s 100th IPL wicket also came
against RCB’s skipper.
A young Bumrah was
spotted by John Wright in the Syed Mushtar Ali Trophy and brought into the
squad to team up alongside legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga. He
certainly got to learn from the best in business during his formative years
with the Mumbai Indians.

The pacer was brought
up in Ahmedabad by his mother Daljit Bumrah. His father was met with an
untimely death when he was just 5 years of age.
The 27-year-old’s
unorthodox action is very difficult to read and on top of that his pace and
accuracy always end up making life difficult for the batters. His uncanny
ability of hitting the blockhole has made him an indispensable part of the
national team’s starting line-up.
He has taken 101
wickets in 24 Test matches, 108 wickets in 67 ODIs and 59 wickets in 50 T20Is
while boasting a good economy rate in all three formats of the game.

Bumrah is the player
with the most maidens bowled in an innings in T20 Internationals as well as the
ninth fastest player to reach 100 wickets in One Day Internationals.
In March 2021, he got
married to Star Sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan in a ceremony which was held
in Goa. His wife is a former Miss India finalist and once participated in MTV’s
reality show Splitsvilla.
