Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Deepak Chahar, who was purchased for a whopping Rs 14 crore in IPL 2022 mega auction, has been ruled out of the season with a back injury.
“Chennai Super Kings bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 owing to a back injury,” said the IPL in a statement.
The injury will reportedly keep the 29-year-old away from the pitch for close to four months, which means he may miss the T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place in Australia later this year.
“We are disappointed because we don’t have one of our main bowlers but injuries are part and parcel of the game. We wish Deepak Chahar a very speedy recovery,” Chennai Super Kings CEO KS Viswanathan said.

Meanwhile, Chahar took to social media to share a message for his fans.
“Sorry guys unfortunately I will be missing out this season of IPL due to an injury. Really wanted to play but will come back better and stronger like I have always done. Thanks for always supporting me with your love and wishes. Need your blessings,” Chahar mentioned in an Instagram post.
Chahar had also suffered a hamstring injury during the home series against the West Indies in February.
After the news broke, fans started wondering if Chahar will be paid the entire amount for the 2022 season despite not playing a single match for CSK. The answer is yes, he will be paid the entire amount.
According to Zee News, since he has not pulled out of the tournament due to any other reason but injury, he will receive the entire amount.
Another reason is that the 29-year-old is a centrally contracted player of BCCI. The governing body began the players’ insurance policy in 2011 according to which its contracted players receive the full amount if they miss out on an IPL season due to an injury.
