Music streaming platform Spotify has recently been granted a patent
for a newer technology, using which songs could be suggested to users based on
their voice data among other factors, according to various media reports.

Having applied for the patent in February 2018, the global music as
well as audio streaming platform received a confirmation by the United States
Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent would be able to suggest tracks
to users based on their emotional state.

Reportedly, another rather questionable patent that Spotify received
involved curating or analysing a particular user’s personality traits and
according adjusting their experience in the application.

“It is common for a media streaming application to include features
that provide personalised media recommendations to a user”, the corporation is
quoted as saying in its patent description.

A common way for Spotify employees to distinguish the musical choices
of a particular listener is by using basic information such as age or gender.

The new patent supposedly takes this method a notch higher, using
voice recognition to comprehend the taste pattern of the user and uses thing
such as “intonation, stress, rhythm, and the likes of units of speech”, running
it through a built-in architecture to categorise the user’ mood as being happy,
angry, sad or neutral.
