The
world-popular Coachella music festival that was scheduled to be held in April
has been cancelled again. The organisers of the music festival were forced to
cancel the event after receiving orders from health officials of Coachella
valley on Friday because of the COVID-19 concerns, reported AFP.

California’s
Riverside country, Coachella valley witnesses huge gathering during the music

This is continuously
the second year that the event has been cancelled. Last
year, the festival had been postponed until October keeping the pandemic in
mind but at last authorities decided to scrap it altogether. This time
also, festival organisers has not mentioned any further date in 2021 for the
festival.

Cameron Kaiser, a public health officer for valley said on
Friday that the order to cancel was based on concerns of “resurgence of
COVID-19 both within the country of Riverside and worldwide”, reported AFP.

He added, along with Coachella festival, another Stagecoach
music and arts festival was also planned to be held in April but got cancelled
too.

Kaiser also said that “both festivals attract hundreds of
thousands of attendees from many countries, including several
disproportionately afflicted by the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. If Covid-19
were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the
nature of the venue would make it infeasible, if not impossible, to track those
who may be placed at risk”.

Coachella and Stagecoach festivals usually takes place every
year on two weekends in April in the California desert.

As per media reports, the economy of the Coachella Valley
suffered a drop in revenue of up to $700 million due to the cancellation of
last year’s festival.
