Donald Trump wives: Who was former US president married to?

Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, has been married three times. His first wife, Ivana Trump, died on Thursday at the age of 73.

In 1977, Donald Trump married Czech model Ivana Zelníčková in a secret ceremony. He has three children with Ivana: Donald Jr. (born 1977), Ivanka (born 1981), and Eric (born 1984). In 1988, Ivana became a naturalized United States citizen. Donald Trump was caught cheating on Ivana in 1989 with actress Marla Maples. Their marriage ended in 1992 due to the affair.

Decades after the split, Ivana spoke out about Marla Maples during an interview with CBS This Morning.

“I don’t talk about her,” Ivana said of Maples in 2017. “She’s a showgirl. Never achieve anything in her life.”

Trump and Maples married in 1993 few years after they first met on Madison Avenue. The wedding took place at the Plaza, and Maples wore a silk, sleeved gown by Carolina Herrera with an estimated $2 million tiara.

They have one daughter, Tiffany (born 1993), who was raised by Marla – a former Georgia beauty queen – in California. In 1999, the duo ended their marriage.

“I think you always hope in marriage to bring out the best in each other, but after many years we realized, we weren’t,” the now-58-year-old told Access Hollywood Live after her divorce. “And then you have to move on… And you know girls in your twenties, you think you can change them in a way.”

Melania Trump

In 2005, Trump married Slovenian model Melania Knauss. Their  wedding took place before 350 guests, including the Clintons, Simon Cowell, Billy Joel and Barbara Walters. Melania and Donald married in a million-dollar event that started at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida, and an extravagant reception at The Mar-a-Lago Club. They have one son, Barron (born 2006). The 52-year-old gained US citizenship in 2006.
