Huge fire breaks out at Hollywood Bowl: Watch footage from the scene

A large fire broke out by Hollywood Bowl on September 17, as concertgoers were exiting the venue, after a Sound of Music singalong. 

Footage from those present at the scene shows firefighters rushing to extinguish the flames on palm trees. LAFD also requested California Highway Patrol to shut down one lane of traffic. 

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, Variety reported the LAFD saying “That somewhat stubborn fire near the @HollywoodBowl, our 1,423rd emergency of the day, thankfully involves only vegetation.”

One Twitter user commented, “fire outside the Hollywood Bowl right now as we are all leaving the Sound of Music sing along it came out of nowhere – it wasn’t burning as we were walking out that literally just combusted”, and shared images from the scene. 

Another Twitter user joked that the fire was undoubtedly started by Jim Morrison, The Doors frontman, whose Live at the Hollywood Bowl album famously has the Light My Fire track.

The band also played their last concert on September 10th, 1972, at the Hollywood Bowl – struggling to stay together after Morrison’s death. Their last song for the night was also Light My Fire.

Another Twitter user shared a clip of people watching on as the fire rages, and noted “Everyone was very calm”.

One individual, presumably present at the scene, provided details of how people at the Hollywood Bowl reacted when the fire broke out. They said, “Leaving the @HollywoodBowl after Sing Along Sound of Music and a small cluster of palm trees was on fire. It burned quickly and was barely embers by the time people reached their cars in stacked parking. While this was happening, the exiting crowd sang Do Re Mi in the tunnel.”

The season is in full swing at the Hollywood Bowl and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees Duran Duran are wrapping up a three-night run.
