Detroit Lions rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs remains sidelined with injury, ruling him out for the upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Lions, who have been on a winning streak this season, have suffered a setback because their rookie running back, Jahmyr Gibbs, is out with an injury. Gibbs, the twelfth overall pick, has been out with a hamstring injury. As the Lions prepare for their Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it has been confirmed that Gibbs will not play.

Gibbs has missed games in the past as a result of this injury. He did not play in the Lions’ Week 5 victory against the Carolina Panthers, and despite a glimmer of hope for his comeback, it appears he will not be able to play against the Buccaneers.

The Lions will rely largely on David Montgomery, who has been the team’s primary running back this season, in his absence. Montgomery, a veteran, has made a major impact on goal-line situations this season, finding the end zone in all four games he’s played and totaling six touchdowns in those games.  His previous two games have been especially remarkable, with 230 yards and four touchdowns on 51 carries.

Montgomery has an opportunity to shine in the upcoming game against the Buccaneers, especially considering Tampa Bay’s defense allowing 4.1 yards per carry this season.

The dynamic playmaker Jahmyr Gibbs has struggled to make an impression in the NFL this season. Through four games, Gibbs has 32 carries for 137 yards and no touchdowns, and 12 receptions for 52 yards and no scores.

Montgomery has clearly seized the lead in the backfield for fantasy football fans, accumulating 408 total yards and six rushing touchdowns in just four games. When fit, Gibbs may serve as a change-of-pace back for passing downs, but Montgomery’s steady effectiveness makes it unlikely that Gibbs will see increased work in the foreseeable future.

As the Detroit Lions maintain their impressive start to the season, the absence of Jahmyr Gibbs will be felt, but it provides an opportunity for David Montgomery to continue his remarkable contributions in the upcoming game against the Buccaneers.
