New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will not play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday because of a neck injury, head coach Brian Daboll announced on Friday. Tyrod Taylor will start against the Bills and has been practicing with the first team as a result.

Jones was hit from behind, resulting in a powerful snapping back of his neck during the sixth sack of the game in Sunday’s 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Daboll had voiced some optimism for Jones’ condition earlier in the week, but it was prior to the MRI findings. Jones expressed confidence that there is no long-term worry, even if he recognized that the results were not wholly good.

Daboll and Jones did not disclose any particulars on the injury. According to ESPN sources at the time, Jones did stress that this injury was different from the neck problem he had in 2021, which caused him to miss the last six games of that season because of a disk issue.

This will be Tyrod Taylor’s first start in a Giants uniform will come against one of his previous teams.
