Texas hail-storms: NWS issues severe thunderstorm warning in Waco, Dublin, Purves, Clairette and Olin

The National Weather Service on Wednesday issued an urgent severe thunderstorm warning in Waco, Dublin, Purves, Clairette, and Olin in Texas. Visuals showed grapefruit sized hails falling from the sky.

Due to a string of powerful electrical storms that are expected to hit the area, the National Weather Service has issued an advisory in Texas.

“Widespread showers and storms currently sweeping across North Texas. Robust cells will contain small hail, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. The potential for severe weather will increase as we move into the afternoon”, read one of the NWS alerts via Twitter.

“The potential for large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes will maximize south of I-20 this afternoon/evening,” through 8 p.m. CT, the National Weather Service said.

Much of central Texas, including the Dallas Metroplex, is under a Level 3 of 5 “enhanced risk” for dangerous weather as the fiercest rounds of storms are predicted to form over Texas and Louisiana, south of a stationary front as a cold front arrives.

More than 2 million residents in central Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, are under a tornado watch until 11 p.m. ET Wednesday. The forecast center forewarned of the possibility of strong wind gusts up to 75 mph and hail up to the size of softballs battering the area.

On the other hand, a different storm system is anticipated to deliver severe thunderstorms to a significant portion of Florida on Wednesday, with the unusual threat of really large hail possible.

From Gainesville to Orlando to Miami, a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. ET. According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Centre, baseball-sized hail will likely be the greatest danger. There is also the potential for damaging winds. “Some of the tornadoes could be strong, and damaging winds will likely become a greater concern this evening as thunderstorms grow upscale into a bowing cluster,” the center said.
