Trump claims NARA should have asked for document boxes saying “please” in first interview since indictment | Watch video

In his first TV interview since being arrested on 37 federal charges earlier this month, former President Trump defended his preservation of sensitive materials and vowed to keep running for the Republican nomination in 2024 despite his legal difficulties.

The former president spoke with Fox News’ Bret Baier in-depth for an exclusive interview that will run in two parts on “Special Report” on Monday and Tuesday. Baier said on “The Story” that the interview covers almost “every question that you would want to ask the former president.”

In clips previewing the interview, Trump defended his reluctance to hand over the documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate while taking aim at National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) when pressed on details of the indictment by Baier.

“The only way NARA could ever get this stuff, this back would be [to say] please, please, please could we have it back,” Trump said.

“They did ask for it,” the Fox News host responded.

“No, we were talking,” Trump interjected.

Even though Trump claimed he had cooperated with the subpoena, according to the indictment, he ordered his assistant to relocate the documents to other locations, according to Baier, “when you hadn’t.”

According to Trump, he delayed sending the boxes to NARA until he had time to remove his “things.”

He informed Baier, “I have to remove my things out before I ship boxes over. There were various items scattered among these boxes.

The former president was charged with 37 federal offences earlier this month, including making false statements and willfully keeping secrets related to national defense. He entered a not-guilty plea.
