UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz on Sunday successfully defended his title against middle weight champ Israel Adesanya, handing him his first loss in his MMA career at UFC 259 inside the Apex in Las Vegas.
Coming into the fight as an underdog yet again, Jan secured the championship rounds against Adesanya, who is known for his striking abilities, with takedowns. Jan won via unanimous decision with scorecards of 49-46, 49-45 and 49-45, according to MMA Fighting.
In the co-headliner, two-division champion Amanda Nunes thrashed No. 1 featherweight contender Megan Anderson, forcing her to tap to an armbar at 2:03 of the opening round. Nunes like always, looked too good for her opponent and landed a right handed shot on Anderson right in the opening minute that shook her, according to ESPN.
Anderson then tried to take down Nunes, and once the fight was on the ground, it was practically over for Anderson as Nunes comfortably applied the armbar.
Nunes has now defended her 145-pound title for the second time and is also still in control of the 135-pound bantamweight title.
Nunes said, “The plan was exactly how I finished the fight. I’m here. It’s not my fault [I’m this dominant]. I know there are a lot of girls out there who want this opportunity. Who wants it?”
