Who is Deion Patterson? Suspect of deadly mass shooting at Midtown Atlanta medical office indicted by jury

According to the Fulton County district attorney, a man suspected of a deadly shooting spree inside a Midtown Atlanta medical office three months ago has been indicted by a grand jury.

Deion Duwane Patterson, 24, was arrested hours after the shooting that killed one woman and critically injured four others. The May 3 incident at the Northside Medical Midtown building happened inside the Laureate Medical Group’s office.

Late last week, 17 accusations were brought against Patterson, including five counts of aggravated assault, four counts of attempted murder, murder, and felony murder. According to the indictment, he was also charged with aggravated battery, criminal property damage, theft by taking, and possession of a firearm while committing a crime. Since his arrest, Patterson has been held without bond at the Fulton jail, where he remained as of late Tuesday.

According to investigators, Patterson was a patient who was turned away because he was late for an appointment. Patterson then shot the women before leading police on a large manhunt. Patterson was captured eight hours after allegedly stealing a car and driving away from Atlanta in Cobb County.

Amy St. Pierre, 38, was murdered in the incident, and Lisa Glynn, Georgette Whitlow, Jazzmin Daniel, and Alesha Hollinger, all of whose ages range from 25 to 71, were also hurt. Police reports state that Hollinger was shot in the face, Glynn was shot in the face, Whitlow was shot in the arm, Daniel was shot numerous times in the belly, and Glynn was shot in the abdomen. The four injured women were later treated at Grady Memorial Hospital and released.

St. Pierre worked for the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and resided in Virginia Highland with her husband Julian, their children, a 7-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old son.

After being released from the United States Coast Guard in January, Patterson requested a prescription for the anti-anxiety drug Ativan, according to his mother. However, medical staff at Veterans Affairs refused to provide medication to him because they were concerned he may become addicted.
