Sports radio presenter Michael Sorce, also known as Don Geronimo on air, was dismissed by WBIG-FM on Sunday after making sexist remarks to a female reporter at the Washington Commanders training camp.

Geronimo made a number of derogatory remarks towards WUSA9 Washington, D.C. reporter Sharla McBride while talking to co-host Crash Young, including shouting, “Hi, Barbie girl,” as she passed him. The Commanders have signed a three-year partnership agreement with WBIG-FM in 2022, which is owned by iHeartMedia.

The remarks were made while Geronimo was with co-host Crash Young. In a later segment of the program, Geronimo came across McBride and mentioned that she was the lady Young had described as “tight.” “Yah. I screamed tight when she was.…” Young spoke before he was interrupted. Geronimo continued by saying he believed she was a “cheerleader.”

“After an internal review, Don Geronimo is no longer an employee of WBIG,” iHeartMedia’s D.C. Region president Aaron Hyland told Washington Post. “We take matters of this nature very seriously and this behavior does not align with our core values.”

McBride claimed that she was “hurt” by the remarks. “When I heard the comments made about me on the radio show, I felt incredibly insulted and embarrassed,” she said speaking to ESPN. “In my 17 years as a professional journalist, I have never been disrespected in such a blatant manner while trying to do my job. Their words were sexist and misogynistic. No woman should experience this in the workplace, and I appreciate the Commanders’ swift response in handling this matter.”

In addition to barring the station from airing a previously taped interview with new owner Josh Harris, the Commanders Friday restricted Geronimo and Young from training camp while they looked into the incident. It’s unclear if Young received any sort of penalty as well.
