According to accounts from the State Police, the attacker went into the mental health facility’s foyer and shot a security guard. The attacker was instantly shot and killed by a state trooper who was stationed at the hospital. 

Bradley Haas, 63, the former chief of police of the Franklin Police Department, has been named as the person slain in a shooting that occurred at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord on Friday.

Just after 3:30 p.m., Haas was shot while doing his duties as a security officer for the New Hampshire Department of Safety. At a hospital, Haas passed away from his wounds despite CPR.

Who was Bradley Haas?

Bradley Haas was 63 years old. Haas put in 28 years of devoted service in the Franklin Police Department, beginning as a patrol officer and retiring as chief.

According to officials, Haas served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army for three years before joining the Franklin police department.

In a press conference, Lori Weaver, the commissioner of the state’s Department of Health and Human Services, said, “We are shocked and saddened by today’s incident at the New Hampshire State Hospital. All patients and hospital staff are safe. Our hearts go out to the family of the victim as well as our colleagues who have been impacted.”

At 3:38 p.m., the State Police got a report about the incident, Col. Mark Hall disclosed in a subsequent press conference. Tragically, Haas passed away from his wounds despite the quick CPR and life-saving actions taken at the scene.

The event also claimed the life of the gunman, whose identity remained a mystery as of Friday night.

Col. Hall said during the press conference, “A State Trooper assigned to the hospital and nearby immediately engaged, shot, and killed the suspect.” He mentioned that everything that happened happened in the hospital lobby.
