United States President Joe Biden, in a White House press release and tweet, slammed the new Texas law that restricted women from getting abortions while excluding exceptional circumstances.

Biden labelled the new law as “extreme” and said that it “blatantly violates” the constitutional rights offered to Americans after the Roe v Wade case, which was taken up in the United States Supreme Court decades ago.

The President said that new legislation, which has already cleared the legislative pipelines of Texas Senate, House and has been signed by Governor Greg Abbott, will “significantly impair women’s access to the health care”. He also spoke about the unequal impact of the new law on “communities of color and individuals with low incomes”.

Biden also lashed out on the new restrictive bill while focusing on the newly granted power to “private citizens”, who would now be enabled to file lawsuits against anyone they suspect to be related to an abortion.

The White House press release read, “The Texas law will significantly impair women’s access to the health care they need, particularly for communities of color and individuals with low incomes.”

It added, “And, outrageously, it deputizes private citizens to bring lawsuits against anyone who they believe has helped another person get an abortion, which might even include family members, health care workers, front desk staff at a health care clinic, or strangers with no connection to the individual.”

Biden said that his administration is “deeply committed” to the Roe v. Wade constitutional rights.

Senate Bill 8, signed by the Republican governor, Greg Abbott, in May, forbids abortion once the embryonic cardiac activity is detected. This happens around six weeks in. The law further offers no exceptions for rape or incest. Since Roe V Wade, Texas is the first state to ban abortion this early in pregnancy
