Rep. Liz Cheney, after losing the Wyoming primary to a rival backed by Donald Trump, has vowed to carry on fight against the former president to ensure that he doesn’t return to office. The 56-year-old will be launching an organisation to counter  presidential run by Donald Trump which may be called ‘The Great Task’ – which was also the name of her final campaign ad, Politico reported.

“In coming weeks, Liz will be launching an organization to educate the American people about the ongoing threat to our Republic, and to mobilize a unified effort to oppose any Donald Trump campaign for president,” Cheney spokesperson Jeremy Adler told Playbook exclusively.

After losing to Trump-backed primary challenger Harriet Hageman, Cheney dropped a major hint that she may run for US Presidency in 2024. Cheney is a fierce critic of the former president and has played a major role in the congressional investigation of the Jan. 6 assault on the US Capitol.

Speaking on NBC’s “Today” show on Wednesday, she said the presidential run was “something I am thinking about” and promised a decision in the “coming months.”

“I believe that Donald Trump continues to pose a very grave threat and risk to our republic. And I think that defeating him is going to require a broad and united front of Republicans, Democrats and independents, and that’s what I intend to be part of,” she said.

Cheney added that she would “do whatever it takes to ensure Donald Trump is never again anywhere near the Oval Office.”

“Our duty as citizens of this republic is not only to defend the freedom that has been handed down to us. We also have an obligation to learn from the actions of those who came before,” she said.
