OceanGate catches flack from public after Sub Pilot Job Advert goes live during search

After five people died in a submersible headed for the Titanic, OceanGate Expeditions has come under increased attention because a job listing for a pilot appeared to be active while the crew was missing.

Screenshots of a now-deleted job posting by the company seeking a Submersible Pilot/Marine Technician to join the team have gone viral on the internet. The company was searching for someone to “manage and operate our fleet of manned submersibles and support vessels.”

It states that OceanGate is looking for someone who can operate the systems that deal with its dives and handle maintenance on the subs, calling it a “excellent opportunity for a high-energy professional.”

Although it’s unclear when the listing was published, web records indicate that it was active from Monday to Thursday, the days following Titan’s disappearance in the Atlantic Ocean. The listing has since been removed.

OceanGate is getting serious scrutiny for what some, including James Cameron, say are serious design and operational issues.
