Former Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has been knocked out by challenger Dustin Poirier in the second round of the UFC 257 main event in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, AFP reported.

McGregor’s comeback to the octagon after more than a year’s absence was decisively affected by the loss.

Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier, himself a former interim Lightweight Champion in the UFC, shook the Irishman with an overhand left, dropping him right after with a straight right, as match referee Herb Dean stopped the contest after two minutes and 32 seconds of the second round.

McGregor had previously lost in October, 2018 to Khabib Nurmagomedov, the current Lightweight Champion, who, in 2020, announced his departure from the promotion with a 29-0 MMA record.
