World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October 4 to promote animal rights and welfare. The day seeks to “mobilize those involved in the animal welfare movement, so that they can be a united global force to make the world a better place for all animals”.

According to the official website, the mission of World Animal Day is – “Each one of us can make a difference – together we make change! Be part of something special.”

To be a part of this collective mission, one can contribute in small ways. Following are some that might click with you.

Organise an Event

Organise an event that promotes animal care, love, and protection measures. It could be as simple as taking pets out for a walk together.

Make a Pledge

On the official website of World Animal Day, you can write a pledge on the board.

Volunteer

Volunteer for a local animal welfare organisation. It could be a pet food bank or even an animal shelter.

Offer Services

Take a day off from work and other chores and offer your time to a free event or discounted services at your clinic or hospital if you happen to be a doctor.

Foster Pets

There’s nothing purer than providing home to an animal in need. It could even be temporary as a foster parent. Spread the word and help.

Take Up a Collection

Collect old towels and blankets, pet food, or any other useful odds and ends for the local animal shelter. You can even collect these from your friends and deliver it all.

Plan a Charity Walk

Organise a dog-friendly and cat-stroller-friendly charity walk and donate the proceeds to an animal welfare organisation.

Save the Whales

Not just cats and dogs, whales and dolphins have also been subjected to cruelty for so long. Contribute to organisations that work on stopping the practice of killing whales and dolphins
