Iran‘s newly instated President Ebrahim Raisi denounced sanctions on his country placed by the United States and tagged them as “US’ new way of war” with various nations of the world. Raisi made the statements at his debut address as head of state at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

Raisi was one of many world leaders who gave their address in a virtual manner in the high-level meeting in New York on Tuesday, according to media reports.

In his recorded statement from Iran’s Tehran, Raisi said, “What is seen in our region today proves that not only the hegemonist and the idea of hegemony, but also the project of imposing Westernized identity have failed miserably”, according to reports from Associated Press.

He added, “Today, the US does not get to exit Iraq and Afghanistan but is expelled.”

Raisi also lashed out on the “America First” and “America is back” catchphrases used by US President Joe Biden and his predecessor and member of the Republican party Donald Trump. He said, “Today, the world doesn’t care about “America First” or “America is Back.”

Raisi demonstrated a rigid stance while facing the United States’ diplomatic initiatives and shrugged off potential negotiations, which would reportedly be aimed at restricting the development of missiles in Iran for support of regional militia, according to Associated Press reports.

Biden has made clear his desire to find a path to salvage the nuclear accord with Iran, that was negotiated by the Obama administration. Still, indirect talks between the US and Iran have stalled and Washington continues to maintain crippling sanctions on the country.

“The United States remains committed to preventing Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon,” Biden said in his own UN speech, delivered in person earlier Tuesday.
