On Tuesday, Nikki Haley of the Republican Party declared her decision to run for president in 2024. Donald Trump, who launched his candidature for president last year, now has a competitor.

The contenders for the US presidency must first win party nominations before taking on the opposing candidate in the actual presidential election. As a result, Haley will now face off against Trump for the Republican Party’s candidature. In a video posted to social media, she declared her intention to run for president.

What is Nikki Haley’s real name?

Nimrata Nikki Randhawa Haley goes by Nikki Haley.

At the Bamberg County Hospital in Bamberg, South Carolina, Haley was born to immigrant Indian Punjabi Sikh parents as Nimrata Nikki Randhawa. Her mother, Raj Kaur Randhawa, and father, Ajit Singh Randhawa, emigrated to the US from Punjab’s Amritsar District. Her mother graduated from the University of Delhi with a law degree, while her father formerly taught at the Punjab Agricultural University. From a young age, Haley was known by her middle name, the Punjabi name Nikki.

After her father was offered a scholarship by the University of British Columbia, Haley’s parents relocated to Canada. Her father relocated his family to South Carolina after receiving his Ph.D. in 1969 and taking a job as a lecturer at Voorhees College, a historically black college.

Raj Randhawa, her mother, has a master’s degree in education and worked as a public school teacher for seven years in Bamberg. She opened the well-known clothing store Exotica International in 1976. It shut down in 2008.

Haley has two brothers and a sister. Simran, her Canadian-born sister, went on to graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology and work as a radio broadcaster. Her second brother, Charan, is a web designer; her first brother, Mitti, retired from the United States Army Chemical Corps after serving in Desert Storm.

At the age of 12, Haley started assisting her mother with the bookkeeping at Exotica International, the ladies’ clothing store. She received her diploma from the exclusive Orangeburg Preparatory Schools in 1989.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Clemson University.
