Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson on Thursday penned an emotional letter to the club’s fans, signing off an incredible season for the Reds that, under different circumstances, may have ended with a historic quadruple.

“Took me a few days to reflect on the whole season and looking back what an extraordinary season it was,” wrote Henderson on his Instagram account, adding, “Couldn’t be more proud of my team mates and everything that we’ve given this season.”

“Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout, together we have shared moments that will be remembered forever,” the 31-year-old wrote, thanking fans for their unwavering support despite the difficult end to the season.

“Didn’t end the way we wanted of course but that’s football. We are Liverpool and will be back stronger! Enjoy the break. See you all again soon to create more memories together,” concluded the Liverpool skipper, signing off with “#YNWA” in a reference to the club’s iconic anthem, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Henderson’s message to the club’s fans, in a way, echoed that of top scorer Mohamed Salah, who bagged the Golden Boot as well as the PFA Player of the Year award this season.

“Being recognised by the fans and by the sports journalists in the same season is something special that I will never forget. I would however give all those personal awards up for a chance at replaying that final, but that is not how football works,” the 29-year-old Egyptian had written after winning the individual honours.

“I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end we couldn’t. I cannot thank the fans enough for your support. It has been a very long season but a part of me wishes the next one starts again tomorrow,” Salah had further said.

Despite failing to win the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League, Liverpool still managed to win the two domestic cups – the EFL Cup and the FA Cup – at the expense of embattled Chelsea.

While the Reds’ dream of finishing with four trophies did not materialise, Liverpool will be looking to busy themselves in the summer transfer window in order to bolster their squad and mount a challenge to a strengthened Manchester City, who have already completed the signing of prolific Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland and Argentine wonderkid Julian Alvarez.
