Maryann Mooney-Rondon and her son Rafael Rondon have been charged with assisting the theft of United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s laptop, which went missing after the January 6 riots at the Capitol Complex in Washington DC.

The mother and son duo, who live in New York‘s Watertown, was arrested by officials from the FBI in connection with the stolen laptop, according to US media reports citing court documents.

Other charges relating to the United States Capitol riots are also shared by both individuals. However, Rafael Rondon also faces charges linked to possession of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun.

According to reports from Associated Press citing statements from the United States Attorney’s Office for New York’s northern district, both Maryann Mooney-Rondon and her son Rafael Rondon appeared before a federal court on Friday in New York’s Syracuse.

A message left at a listing for Mooney-Condon in Watertown was not immediately returned Monday. Attempts to locate Rafael Rondon were not immediately successful.

Mooney Rondon, who is 55 years old, reportedly confessed about her presence in the Capitol Complex and House Speaker Pelosi’s office on January 6 earlier this year. Moreover, she also provided an article of clothing to a man to help him steal the laptop without leaving fingerprints, according to reports from Associated Press.

The 55-year-old said, “He asked, he said, give me – I don’t know if it was gloves or a scarf I was wearing – and like I said he scared me”, according to a document.

Mooney-Rondon then said she believes she saw the man put the computer in his backpack. Her son, who is 23 years old, told investigators that he thinks he might have pushed the computer “in his bag a little bit using a glove ’cause he didn’t want to get his fingerprints on it,” the document says.
